Miss Chen looks more or less like an average human from Xeviere. She is petite and somewhat pale, with slanted, light brown eyes. She has long, black hair, which she usually wears in a braid or loose bun. Her traveling clothes consist of a pair of black leather boots, a white, long-sleeved shirt and black pants under a long, pink sleeveless tunic. She stores everything except her cloak, belt, gloves, rings, holy symbol, and sai in her haversack. Miss Chen wears her black cloak over her other clothing, and her black leather belt with three moonstones cinched around the waist of her tunic. She wears her ring on her ring finger, beneath her gloves. She always wears her silver holy symbol in plain view on a chain around her neck, and keeps her sai strapped to her upper right thigh. This allows easy access through the slits in her tunic that run from her hip to the bottom hem of the tunic, above her knees.

Bio:

Miss Chen was born and raised in Xeviere by her mother. She never knew her father, and believed that he died when she was an infant, although in truth, Miss Chen’s mother just didn’t want to have to explain the complicated details of their relationship, and the reason why Miss Chen’s father left. Miss Chen’s mother raised her according to the strictest of Xevierian principles, including familial piety, chastity, purity, and respect. These teachings required that Miss Chen remain chaste until such time as she was married to an appropriate suitor. The traditions of Xeviere also taught Miss Chen to expect that she would someday take over the inn that was her mother’s family business. Miss Chen even attended classes at the nearby temple of Jian Qing Liu so that she could learn how to behave in a polite and decorous manner, and how to sing and dance to entertain guests at the inn. Unfortunately, she never inherited the inn. When she was 14, the building caught fire during the night, probably due to a fallen candle or lamp. The inn burned down, and Miss Chen’s mother died in the fire. Miss Chen was saved by a cleric of Jian Qing Liu who had noticed the smoke from the fire. The cleric healed Miss Chen’s wounds, and invited her to come to the temple to recover and, since she no longer had a home or family, to stay there and join the clergy. Miss Chen had always admired Jian Qing Liu for her talents, so she gratefully accepted the cleric’s offer, and joined the order known as the Aiwuren, Jian Qing Liu’s Pleasure Clerics.

Miss Chen easily fell into the routine of the clerics at the temple. Her intellect made it easy for her to catch up with the other clerics of her age, and her innate spellcasting abilities allowed her to surpass them, so that she quickly advanced through the ranks of the Aiwuren. Although she encountered no difficulties in her studies, Miss Chen did have one problem with her new calling. The Aiwuren, or Pleasure Clerics, are expected to travel and spread pleasure through the fine arts, and sometimes through physical gratification. Miss Chen had loved to sing, dance and entertain others since her first lessons at the temple of Jian Qing Liu, but she still believed she should value and maintain purity, as her mother had taught her. The greatest challenge she faced while in training at the temple was that of fending off advances by men, some of whom assumed that she would be available because of her calling as one of the Aiwuren. Even though her reputation for chastity spread and the number of invitations she received decreased, Miss Chen developed more and more anxiety about how to honor her late mother’s teachings while working as one of the Aiwuren. She started to avoid men, and after six years in the temple of Jian Qing Liu, found that she had become invariably nervous and shy around men, even as she had grown exceptionally comfortable around the female clerics with whom she spent all her time. Miss Chen spent many days contemplating how she had developed while in the temple, and decided that she had to make a change. She could never fully embrace the teachings of Jian Qing Liu if she could not even converse amiably with men, so she would have to change herself. Miss Chen knew that if she continued to reside in the temple, she would be tempted to continue to associate only with her female friends, and it was unlikely that she would make much progress. She made her decision, gathered her courage, and set off alone to make friends with men.
